Bold Park Fire Research Burn
06th May 2026
The Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA) is planning to conduct a small, controlled burn in Bold Park on a selected day between 29 April and 31 May 2026.
The three-hectare burn is part of an ongoing important scientific research project by Kings Park scientists to investigate methods of managing bushfire risks and protecting the natural environment in urban bushlands.
This burn was originally scheduled to take place in 2025 but was unable to be conducted due to unsuitable weather conditions. The new dates above reflect a rescheduling of the burn.
The exact date cannot be confirmed until approximately 9 am on the day of the burn, as it is dependent on suitable weather and safety conditions. The low intensity fire may last up to three hours and is likely to begin around 11 am. It will be closely controlled by BGPA staff with support from the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) Parks and Wildlife Service and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES). Fire response crews will remain present for the duration of the fire and BGPA staff will monitor the site until the fire is completely extinguished.
Road and pedestrian path closures will be in place during the burn and some pedestrian path closures may persist for up to three days afterwards for public safety and ongoing monitoring. The attached information sheet provides further details and a map of the burn location. The precise timing of the burn and other updates will be available at www.bgpa.wa.gov.au/notices.
Thank you for your support and co-operation in this matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact BGPA on (08) 9480 3600 or by email at enquiries@bgpa.wa.gov.au.
